What to Expect

Rise and shine to start your day by discovering one of New Zealand's best destinations to sea kayak! Explore Akaroa and its beautiful harbour on a 3-hour guided kayaking adventure as you soak up the serenity of the most magical time of day.

Join your experienced nature guide to start your morning paddle along the coastline, taking in views of towering sea cliffs and enjoying the opportunity for chance wildlife encounters and fantastic bird watching opportunities. Learn about the volcanic rock formations, witness live blow holes, and explore caves and remote untouched areas only accessible by boat.

Kayaking is the ultimate way to see some of the most mind-blowing views in the pristine Banks Peninsula and starting early means you often have the whole harbour to yourselves. Reconnect with nature as you enjoy no noise, no crowds and no boat engines

Small group numbers are key as you are visiting fragile, pristine, and relatively undisturbed natural areas, where you can enjoy exploring this marine reserve in a low-impact and environmentally responsible way. Different species of wildlife (some endangered) may cross paths with us as we continue along our route and every day is different. Sightings may include endangered New Zealand fur seals, native sea birds, the endangered white flippered penguins and Hector dolphins.

This tour is a highlight of any New Zealand travel itinerary and is a must-do for nature lovers!

Yes, this is a great activity that all families can enjoy together.

Our minimum age is 10 years old and each child needs to be paired with an adult family member who has some kayaking experience. The children must be able to assist their parents with some paddling.

You will get your ankles and feet wet as your climb into your kayak but apart from this our spray skirts will keep you warm and dry. We recommend bringing a light jacket as the weather can be changeable.

Most of our safaris are designed for folks of all ages who would like to experience Sea Kayaking. Beginners are welcome! A basic to moderate level of fitness is required and you must be able to get yourself in and out of your kayak easily, unassisted. Back injuries or very tall people may have issues travelling comfortably.

Please note, this sunrise tour covers more distance, moves at a faster pace and needs a little more effort than our Crater Cruiser Safari and you may be required to carry your kayak with a partner so please keep this in mind when choosing your tour.

Your safety and well-being are our number one priority. Strong winds and large swell can cause us to cancel sea kayaking trips from time to time but this is quite rare. We are completely mobile and lucky to have many different locations to operate in depending on the wind direction.

Rain, on the other hand, is “sweet as” and all trips will proceed as normal! If the weather is looking unsuitable for your trip we will SMS or email you beforehand to give you the opportunity to reschedule.
