What to Expect
Enjoy a nature-lover's safari through one of the best sea kayaking destinations in New Zealand! Kayaking is the ultimate way to see some of the most mind-blowing views in the pristine Banks Peninsula, where the mountains meet the ocean.
Join your experienced nature guide in Akaroa as you head off through the harbour on your 2.5-hour kayaking adventure hugging the coastline. As you gently paddle along, features of interest and marine life will be pointed out by your guide. Chance sightings of endangered species such as hector dolphins, white flippered penguins and fur seals are also possible depending on the day.
While exploring remote bays and inlets your guide will tell stories about the extinct volcano you are paddling through and take photos for you whilst gliding through the stunning turquoise waters. Originally an island formed by two volcanic cones, the Banks Peninsula is the South Island’s most interesting volcanic feature and you can enjoy paddling past some amazing geological formations.
Stop on a remote beach for a short comfort break, during which you can explore, swim or simply soak up the pristine New Zealand environment. You will also get to try one of New Zealand’s world-famous Cookie Time cookies, straight from the factory in Christchurch!
Small group numbers are key as you are visiting fragile, pristine, and relatively undisturbed natural areas, where you can enjoy exploring this marine reserve in a low-impact and environmentally responsible way. Close encounters with no noise, no engines, no crowds and no pollution!
This tour departs from the meeting point at 40 Rue Lavaud, Akaroa
